鉄道貨物輸送150周年を記念した特別展です。

明治6年（1873）9月15日に新橋・横浜間で貨車を用いた鉄道貨物輸送が開始されて、今年で150周年を迎えます。貨物鉄道の歴史は、その開業と同時に始まった鉄道貨物取扱業、いわゆる「通運事業」の歴史でもありました。

また、日本の鉄道開業の地である新橋駅は、大正3年（1914）に貨物専用の汐留駅となって以後、昭和61年（1986）まで営業を続け、東京における鉄道貨物輸送の一大拠点として、戦前・戦中・戦後を通し日本の物流に大きな役割を果たしました。

本展では、鉄道貨物輸送150周年の節目の年にあたり、長く日本の物流に貢献した旧新橋駅時代を含む汐留駅の歴史について、写真や映像、各種資料を通し、貨物鉄道と通運事業双方の観点から振り返ります。

Special Exhibition : The 150th Anniversary of rail freight transportation

Shiodome Station－The history of Japan's oldest giant freight station－

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the start of freight railroads using freight cars between Shimbashi and Yokohama on September 15, 1873. The history of freight railroads is also the history of the railroad freight forwarding business, or the so-called "通運事業"（Tsu-unn jigyou）. In Japan, these started at the same time.

Shimbashi Station, one of Japan's first railroad stations, became Shiodome Station exclusively for freight in 1914 and remained open until 1986, playing an important role in Japan's logistics before, during, and after World War II as a main terminal in Tokyo for rail freight transportation.

This exhibition, marking the 150th anniversary of railroad freight transportation, looks back on the history of Shiodome Station, including its long contribution to Japan's logistics, from the perspective of freight railroads and the freight forwarding business, through photographs, videos, and various materials.
